The frog of the bush
It was climbing a tree with bright green suckers on its feet , almost a toy . It was the first time I saw the frog of the bush or tree frog , along with other kids  near the pool a summer .
This time, I found it at  Hudson´s  house  . We were walking with a group along a path toward the creek " The shells " when it  jumped. First, I thought it was a lobster for its clear brown color , but I was amazed how it jumped. I had the camera in hand and I could not react, it was faster . Surprisingly, it was lost in the pasture .
The frog Hyla pulchella pulchella is small from 35 to 45 mm .It is associated with the vegetation from which it takes its color .It can go from light green to bright cinnamon uniform or spotted . It can defend very well using mimicry and also secretes at  the contact a nasty smell. It is nocturnal, so it is difficult to find during the day.

Like any frog sings. It has three types of songs : the wedding , the rain and the cry of anguish when it is  caught .

A January afternoon, on the hill, passing the gate, after going through the privet forest  ... it appeared in the clear simple and austere, but at the time impressive : the birthplace of the writer.
During the visit, time stopped.
I sensed a feeling of peace, in the natural environment . The abundant vegetation in midsummer exploited in different greens.
A lasting memory.

Caminando - Walking

This bird , hornero ( Furnarius rufus) , is elegant, with brown feathers,   and long beak.  It walks making small steps in search of insects to eat . It is chosen by Argentina and Uruguay as national bird .
It has discreet appearance but is a wonderful bird . It is an engineer and constructor unmatched .  It makes a fabulous nest like a mud oven, perhaps unique in the world. They live for life with the same partner. Both built the nest , their masterpiece  with  their beak , mud , leaves , twigs , manure and horsehair. The spherical nest has two rooms : a hall and another room for the young. Generally , they face the nest entrance against cold winds from the south. They place the nest in a high  and sometimes unusual  positions : lampposts , monuments , houses. They live in the countryside but also in the city , they are part of the urban landscape.

Tireless workers, they build a new nest each year. The nest remains functional to other animals : birds , reptiles and mammals.

The estuary of the Río de la Plata keeps secrets and treasures. One is the franciscana dolphin, Pontoporia blainvillei. This dolphin inhabits the Uruguayan coast of Río de la Plata, and coastlines from southern Brazil to the Río Negro in Argentina.
It is small,  no more than 1.50 meters , brownish, short-sighted and moves slowly. It is a mystery, even to those who live on the coast of the estuary. There are very few of them. Unfortunately, they die in fishing nets.

Buenos Aires Port

It is always in my memories. People who live nearby neddless to explain its name when are talking about the river. It is unique. exaggerated, majestic.
Really it is a large estuary at the mouth of Parana and Uruguay river. It has its own tides regime. Solis, the spanish conquistador called "sweet sea" and he was not so wrong.
Hudson described :" River Plate, this river that looked like sea, has no visible shore in the distance".
The river of brown colours, the lion river, in autumn and winter when sun´s rays are parallel to its surface changes to a large mirror, a silver mirror.

December 2013 was the warmest on record in Argentina. Heatweave were altered animals behavior. The piranhas : palometas, attacked in Parana river on the coast of Rosario , also did in Rio de la Plata near Buenos Aires city.
There were two conditions for the attack. First one : their natural predator yacaré overo is endangered. Second one : the heat encreased water temperature, decreased the amount of oxigen avaible , fishes spent more energy and needed  to feed . They attacked , in this case, to swimmers who were escaping the heat.

Yacaré overo
